Estancia Responders Sharpen Life-Saving Skills in 3-Day First Aid and Vehicle Extrication Training

ESTANCIA, ILOILO – Preparedness saves lives. That was the driving message behind the 3-Day Standard First Aid and Vehicle Extrication Training successfully held this month for employees of the Local Government Unit of Estancia and its partner agencies.
The capacity-building program was spearheaded by the MDRRMO-Estancia in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross – Iloilo Chapter, bringing together responders from the LGU, BFP, PNP, and other frontline units.
From Classroom to Ground Zero
Day 1 opened with intensive lectures inside the training hall. Philippine Red Cross instructors walked participants through the fundamentals of standard first aid — from patient assessment and wound dressing to splinting and proper immobilization techniques. Responders documented each procedure, knowing these skills could mean the difference between life and death in the field.
Day 2 shifted the action to the Estancia Municipal Grounds for hands-on vehicle extrication simulations. Under the guidance of PRC trainers, participants practiced scene assessment, victim stabilization, and safe extrication techniques using realistic road crash scenarios. Spine boards, bandages, and protective gear were put to work as teams learned to coordinate under pressure.
Day 3 capped the training with expanded simulations focused on multiple-casualty road accidents. Simulated victims, complete with moulage and fake blood, challenged responders to apply triage, control bleeding, and execute proper patient transport. The drills tested not just technical skill, but teamwork, communication, and decision-making.
Why It Matters
Estancia sits along major highways where road crashes remain a constant risk. By investing in this training, the LGU aims to shorten response times, reduce complications during rescue, and ultimately save more lives.
“Thank you, Philippine Red Cross – Iloilo Chapter, for partnering with our LGU in providing this three-day training and capacity-building program for our responders,” the LGU said in its official statement.
Training with Realism, Ensuring Safety
All scenarios were strictly for simulation purposes. Fake blood, props, and moulage were used to create realistic training conditions while ensuring the safety of all participants.
